SOVIDAY publishes verified good news. This page explains what that means in practice: how we choose stories, how we check them, how we use AI, where our images come from and how we fix mistakes.

Last updated: 28 October 2026

What "good news" means here

A SOVIDAY story is about real, measurable progress confirmed by credible sources. Typical examples: a disease eliminated in a country, a threatened species recovering, a record in clean energy, a scientific discovery, a city that has become safer, better recycling, or people helping people.

Humanitarian outcomes, such as finishing a demining program or a vaccination campaign, are welcome even when the background is hard.

What we leave out

  • Party politics and elections

  • War as the main subject

  • Religion

  • Celebrity news

  • Crypto

  • One company's marketing or product launch, unless it has a large, documented public benefit

  • Unverified viral stories

  • Items that are cute but trivial

How we verify a story

  • Every fact is checked on a source page. Each number, date, name and claim must be confirmed on a page we actually opened. We never write from memory alone.

  • Two or three sources per story. Where one exists, at least one is a primary source: a UN agency such as WHO, a government or regulator, a scientific journal or university, an organization's own report, or a company's official filing for its own figures. The others are reputable news outlets.

  • Sources must load and must say what we cite them for. We do not use paywall-only, broken or login-only pages, and we run an automated check that every source link in our story bank still loads.

  • A fact-by-fact record. For each story we keep an internal list of its key facts and the source link that confirms each one.

  • Sources are public. Every story page on soviday.com ends with a list of its sources, with links, so you can check them yourself.

  • Still true today. We look for follow-up reports to make sure a story has not been reversed or debunked. If we cannot verify a story to this standard, we drop it.

How we write

  • Dated. We always say when something happened ("In March 2025, ..."), and we never present an old event as if it were happening today. Most of our stories describe events from the past two years; older ones appear only when they are exceptional and still true.

  • In our own words. We do not copy sentences from sources. A story contains at most one direct quote of no more than 25 words, copied exactly and attributed by name and role.

  • No hype. We do not call something a cure unless it is literally a cure.

  • Caveats up front. Every story page has a "Worth noting" section with the limits and context you should know, for example a small study size, a funding gap or a risk that progress could reverse.

  • Balanced geography. We spread stories across continents, and no single country may account for more than a quarter of our stories.

How we use AI

SOVIDAY stories are researched and drafted with AI assistance. Every figure, date and name is then checked against the sources linked at the end of each story, using the verification rules above.

Images and video

  • Photos are illustrative. Story photos come from Unsplash under its free license and are credited, for example "Photo by (photographer's name) on Unsplash (illustrative)". Unless a caption says otherwise, a photo shows the kind of place or subject in the story, not the event itself.

  • Video clips in our videos come from Pexels and are credited as illustrative.

  • Accuracy still matters. We check that a photo shows the right species and the right kind of place. If we find a misleading image, such as the wrong animal or another city's signage, we replace it.

Corrections

We work hard to get things right, and we want to hear about it when we don't. If you spot an error, email us at [email protected] with the story link and what you believe is wrong.

When we confirm an error, we correct the story page and add a dated note at the end explaining what changed.

Independence

SOVIDAY currently publishes no sponsored stories and no affiliate links. If that ever changes, sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such.
